Stages of Treatment
There are three stages of orthodontic treatment: the planning stage, the active stage, and the retention stage.
Planning
The planning stage involves a clinical examination and records (photographs, radiographs, and study models) to plan for your orthodontic treatment.
Diagnosis and treatment planning are crucial to success and the achievement of your orthodontic treatment goals.
Active
The active stage is when the teeth are straightened into correct alignment with the jaws, bite, and face.
During this stage, orthodontic adjustment appointments are scheduled every 6-weeks or so as treatment progresses to completion.
Retention
The retention stage is also crucial to success and begins when the braces are removed on the completion of active treatment, and you are provided with orthodontic retainers to wear.
Retainers keep your teeth in their correct positions after the braces have been removed. Retainers can be fixed to the teeth or removable, and frequently a combination of each is used.
