Traditional orthodontic braces, also called fixed appliances, remain the treatment of choice in orthodontics because they can correct the variety of orthodontic problems ranging from mild irregularity to a misaligned bite and jaw discrepancy.
Orthodontic treatment with braces makes a wonderful smile, enhances oral health, and improves functions, such as speech and chewing.
The Science of Braces – how they work!
Technological advancements have improved traditional orthodontic treatment utilising braces for increased patient comfort and aesthetics, and decreased treatment duration.
Orthodontic braces can be made from metal and/or ceramic materials. Metal is the predominant choice, whilst ceramic braces are frequently applied for aesthetics.
Braces are fixed to the teeth and have wires connected to align the teeth into correct positions by the application of light and consistent forces.
Braces can also be placed behind the teeth for what is called lingual orthodontic treatment.

Indications you might require orthodontic treatment with braces include,
• crooked or crowded teeth,
• difficulty brushing and flossing,
• inadvertent biting of the tongue or cheek,
• early loss of baby teeth or delay in development of the adult teeth,
• chewing difficulties,
• overbite and underbite,
• open bite,
• missing teeth or extra teeth, and
• crossbite.
